SafeByte Health ("we," "us") operates safebyte.health and the SafeBite allergen scanner. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.
What we collect
- Scanner profile (local) — allergens you select are stored in your browser's local storage. We do not upload your scan profile unless you explicitly submit a form (e.g. parental consent or checkout).
- Barcode lookups — when you scan, our server queries Open Food Facts. We receive the barcode and your allergen list for that request only; we do not permanently store scan results on our servers by default.
- Checkout — name, email, shipping address, and payment are processed by Stripe. We store order records (email, product, amount) for fulfillment.
- COPPA / children under 13 — we do not knowingly collect personal data from children without verifiable parental consent. Parents may submit name and email through our consent form.
- Emergency QR profiles (ByteCard SOFT) — profile data is encoded in the URL you generate. It lives in the link itself unless you purchase a physical ByteCard (we then use your checkout email for fulfillment).
How we use data
- Match product ingredients against your allergen profile
- Ship ByteCard and marketplace orders
- Process subscriptions and send receipts via Stripe
- Comply with law and respond to deletion requests
What we do not do
- Sell your personal information
- Provide medical advice or diagnosis
- Guarantee allergen accuracy (always verify with manufacturers)

- Cloudflare — hosting and security
- Supabase — order and consent database
- Open Food Facts — product ingredient database
Children's privacy (COPPA)
If you are under 13, a parent or guardian must complete our in-app consent form before we store any information about you. Parents may request deletion at privacy@safebyte.health.
Your rights
You may request access, correction, or deletion of data we hold about you by emailing privacy@safebyte.health. Scanner data stored locally can be cleared via your browser settings.
